Another round of strong earnings reports from Chipotle, Snap Inc., Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola, Harley-Davidson, Inc., Prologis, Inc., United Community Banks, Inc., Philip Morris International Inc., and the list go on. The good news is coming on both fronts, from the companies earnings and the economic data. Last week Markit Service and Manufacturing PMIs for UK, EU, Australia, and the USA were better than expected, which is evidence for solid momentum in the USA economy and pickup in the European economic activities.
Looking ahead with the reopening in Europe, the progress in vaccination in the western world, the support from the Central Banks, and various government initiatives, the economic growth will pick up the pace, and we may experience an economic boom during the summer of 2021.
The better-than-expected economic activity for the Q1 of 2021 was noticed by the Bank of Canada, which decided last week to reduce their QE program from $4 billion to $3 billion weekly net purchases of Government of Canada bonds. As can be expected The CAD reacted positively to the QE tapering and gained against the EUR, USD, NZD, AUD, JPY and the GBP.
In Europe, the ECB said that it will be premature to reduce their PEPP program (Pandemic emergency purchase program), however, soon or later the ECB will have to reduce their PEPP program.
In the week ahead the markets will be focused on the FED Interest Rate Decision and Fed Press Conference on Wednesday the 28th of April, any comments about the potential for reducing the QE program will upset the markets. Also, the following company’s reports can and most likely will move the stock markets.
